WWS World Overall Tour – Rules & Info
1. Tour Points
The Overall Tour comprises 4 stops. The Tour Champion is determined based on the top 3 placements of these 4 stops, with 1 tournament serving as a throw-away score. That being said, only skiers who have skied in the first 3 events (or have an injury, or validated excuse for one of the other tour stops) will be allowed to place in the year-end tour standings (see #9 injury clause).
2. Entry
All Overall Skiers are welcome to enter. The number of event spots may vary for each event, potentially resulting in entry limits into Overall prelims. For events with restrictions, a Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) round may be available, allowing athletes without ranking points to qualify. Check the EVENT PAGES for each stop for cut-off dates and entry numbers.
- 2.1 – Protected Ranking –
- The WWS ranking list determines the initial skiers added to the entry list. WWS-ranked athletes have 2 weeks from the opening date or a designated date to enter; after that, they forfeit their protected spot.
- After the 2 weeks at midnight or designated date, the entry list will be filled from the top down on the IWWF dynamic ranking list.
- Once 8 men and 8 women have been confirmed, 2 wild cards may be allowed to enter the event, at the discretion of the organizer and the host country.
- Additionally, 2 men and 2 women qualifying spots are available if the event has an LCQ (Last Chance Qualifier) tournament before the preliminary overall rounds.
- 2.2 – Intent to Ski: Waitlist
- If payment is received before the cut-off date, an athlete will either be entered into the tournament as a qualified WWS skier or be put on a waitlist.
- Waitlisted skiers may have the opportunity to ski in the LCQ and qualify for the tournament when available. They’ll also have the option to pull out of the event if they choose not to ski the LCQ and receive their entry fee back, 2 weeks before the event.
- After cut-off dates, skiers making the entry list will need to provide a formal valid excuse as stated in Rule #9.
- Cut-off dates will be listed on each event page
3. Sanctioning – Prelims and Finals
If an event is held with a Qualifying format (LCQ), the local organizer will determine the schedule. These LCQ rounds will typically be IWWF WR-sanctioned. Preliminary and finals for Pro Overall will follow WWS rules. It is the responsibility of the athlete to check the EVENT PAGE for each event, and what rules will be used for each round. The Overall final will typically be set up to last approximately 3 hours, with a typical final consisting of 5 men and 4 women, although, once again, these numbers may be changed at the discretion of the event organizers. The WWS organization also holds the right to adjust these numbers if deemed necessary.
4. Seeding
The seeding for the 1st event of the year will be determined by the Overall WWS rankings from the previous year. Seeding at the second stop will be ranked from the Overall Tour Rankings, which will be updated after each stop until the tour champion is crowned for that season. Event seeding for each event will be based solely on the Overall Rankings, meaning the highest-ranked Overall skier will be the top seed for all three disciplines. In the case of injury or maternity leave (see #9 injury clause).
5. Placement
Each event will consist of a preliminary and final round. The prelims will determine the running order for the finals. The final round will be the sole determining round for the Overall placements and the tour points for each event. The individual event scores will be tracked from all rounds to determine WWS records in each discipline as well as course records. An individual ranking system will eventually determine a bonus system for individual event placements.
6. Tie Breaks
For tour point ties, the highest single-round Overall score throughout the year breaks the tie. In case of a 3 or more way tie, the highest Overall scores determine the order. Ties in prelims are resolved by higher-ranked Overall skiers advancing. In the final, ties are broken by the higher preliminary round Overall score.
7. Bonus Prize
Any single event prize money will be allocated for the highest score in an individual event from either round. Individual event podiums/placements will be tracked throughout the year and will be displayed/discussed during the events to highlight each skier’s achievements, but will not have points associated with the tour rankings this year.
8. Tour Champion Prize Purse
Tour Champion Prize Purse: Awards are given at the final stop. Skiers must be present to receive checks. Only skiers who participated in the first 3 events (or have a validated excuse) are eligible for year-end bonus payouts. (see injury clause #9).
9. Injury or Validated Excuses
Skiers with valid excuses will be awarded 1 tour point and will be counted as having participated in the event. Both injuries and other excuses must be submitted with supporting documents for assessment by the head committee of the World Water Skiers (WWS).
- The excuse must be submitted via email to admin@WorldWaterSkiers.com at least 2 weeks before the tour stop.
- In the case of an injury or approved maternity leave that prevents a ranking member from participating in two or more stops of the current season, their ranking from the prior season will be retained until their return, and they will return under the same ranked skier on the current list.
10. Depth Of Field
If the minimum depth of field is not met by the entry cut-off date, WWS reserves the right to amend or change the prize money breakdown at the discretion of the hosting club organizer and the WWS head committee. A minimum of 2 out of the top 5 and 5 out of the top 10 on the current WWS and or IWWF ranking must enter each event. We will attempt to give other entered skiers advanced notice of any changes so they can evaluate the changes.

WWS Tournament Rules
- There will be 4 judges: a Chief, a Driver, an Appointed Judge, and a scorer or secretary
- WWS-sanctioned events will be eligible for WWS records. The event may be sanctioned as an Experimental Class and thus, the scores will not be submitted to the IWWF ranking list.
Tricks:
- There will be a singular judge calling tricks, with the option of a secretary
- There will be one judge for trick timing.
- If EyeTrick is being used 3 judges or 1 judge may be used and the timing will come from Eyetrck.
- There will be a camera in the boat for video review. All cameras available at review time are eligible for review
- The driver will be the boat judge
- If a skier asks for a re-ride, all judges will be pooled and the chief judge will make the final call
- Additional weight is permitted in the boat during the trick event within the permitted time designated by the chief judge.
- Set down times between runs will be determined by the chief judge at the athlete meeting
- Failing to meet the time allotted will be deducted 100 Tour Points for each infraction.
Slalom:
- The chief judge will be in the main tower watching the skier’s gates.
- The boat judge has the right to call in to ask for a review if he/she believes the skier missed the gate. The chief judge ultimately has the final say as to the gate call. If the chief judge deems a skier missed the gates, a review frame by frame can be used.
- The boat judge will watch the skier and make the call on the final buoy count of each pass.
- If the chief judge, watching in the tower, feels that the incorrect buoy count was called, or the boat judge believes that a review is necessary, the chief judge can review the skier’s pass with any camera, frame by frame, to determine the final buoy count. The chief judge thus has the final buoy count call.
- The boat path will be monitored by GPS tracking, or end course cameras.
- If a skier asks for a re-ride, all judges will be pooled and the chief judge will make the final call
Jump:
- If the boat crew consists of the driver and a judge, the judge has the final call in the boat.
- If the boat crew consists of the driver and a cameraman, the driver will be responsible for the boat times.
- The boat path will be monitored by GPS tracking, or end course cameras.
- If a skier asks for a re-ride, all judges will be pooled and the chief judge will make the final call
The rules are written with the intent to streamline the event for entertainment purposes. Safety and fair play is our number one concern and expect all the athletes to follow the athlete code of conduct. WWS is athlete-driven and all rules are open for discussion and consideration for improving the sport of water skiing.
GOOD LUCK AND GO BIG!
