Brian Derrick joins GOODE and sets new PB of 5@41 (twice)
For nearly three years Brian Detrick couldn’t get past his personal best of 3 buoys at 41 feet off.
But in less than two weeks on the RéV 6, the newest member of Team GOODE’s PB now stands two buoys higher at 5 at 41 off.
Brian set the new PB not once, but twice during last weekend’s Shortline Lake Record in Elk Grove, Calif.
For more about how the new PBs went down, watch the video above.
Prior to setting the new PB, Brian predicted big things to come for him this summer on the RéV 6.
“It’s very symmetrical in the turns and fast across the wake, which creates a lot of space into the next buoy,” said Brian. “I’ve never had so much space coming into the buoy. As the line continues to get shorter that space is still there.
“There’s just a lot of potential in this ski and I’m very excited about that and where it can go this season.”
Currently the No. 4 ranked Open Men’s skier in the United States, Brian’s score of 5 at 41 off will likely vault him into the top-6 of IWWF’s continuous world rankings list. He ended the 2014 and 2015 seasons in the top-10 of the IWWF’s Elite rankings and was named the 2014-15 WaterSki Magazine Ambassador of the Year.
MasterCraft Boats Broadens MasterCraft Throwdown Competition
MasterCraft Boats Broadens MasterCraft Throwdown Competition into Summer-Long Event Series.
Highlights to Include Continued Collaboration with ESPN’S World of X Games on Real Wake, Made-For-TV Pro Invitational and Throwdown Tour
VONORE, Tenn. (June 17, 2016) – Building on the momentum from last year’s inaugural MasterCraft Throwdown, MasterCraft Boats (NASDAQ: MCFT) has announced plans to expand this platform from a single competition into a full-blown, summer-long event series. This new format will widen the opportunities for both competitors and fans to be involved with the progression of competitive watersports as the new series will feature an online video competition, a made-for-TV pro invitational and a traveling demo tour at regional dealer locations.
Last year’s inaugural MasterCraft Throwdown boosted wakeboarding and waterskiing back into the action sports spotlight by boasting the largest cash purse in the history of competitive watersports and a new world skifly record of 312 feet by long distance jumping legend Freddy Krueger. This year’s lineup looks even more promising with world-class riders such as Rusty Malinoski, Harley Clifford and Shota Tezuka set to compete.
“MasterCraft has been at the forefront of competitive wakeboarding and waterskiing since the company’s inception in 1968 and the company plans to retain its leadership role in shaping the future of competitive watersports,” said Terry McNew, President and CEO of MasterCraft. “This new format for the MasterCraft Throwdown will continue to shine the spotlight on the athletes pushing the boundaries of competitive watersports, but it also provides a platform to encourage new participation in waterskiing and wakeboarding, as well.”
The MasterCraft Throwdown series will kickoff with Real Wake Driven by MasterCraft on July 20 at XGames.com, an online competition showcasing original videos produced by the best riders and filmers in the industry all vying for X Games gold. After a successful 2015 collaboration with action-sports leader ESPN X Games, Real Wake Driven by MasterCraft returns to the Real Series lineup on World of X Games with an hour-long episode airing July 30 on ABC. Organized in conjunction with Alliance Wake, the free-flowing format of this competition will reward next-level tricks, innovative style and mind-blowing cinematography.
Another major component of the revamped MasterCraft Throwdown series will be a made-for-TV, invite-only competition pitting the best professional riders in the world against one another in head-to-head heats. Mirroring the format of last year’s well-received pro event in Grand Rapids, MI, this new signature event will deliver cutting-edge action and high stakes competition to a national viewing audience.
The final element of the bigger, bolder MasterCraft Throwdown series will be a nation-wide Throwdown Tour designed to encourage both progression and new participation in watersports. Envisioned as more of a grassroots approach, MasterCraft will partner with its extensive network of dealers and team riders to focus more on inclusion rather than strict competition with a heavy emphasis on fun.
“MasterCraft boats have pulled countless world records and world champions and the new MasterCraft Throwdown series will continue to allow elite athletes to push the limits of the sport,” said Jay Povlin, VP of Global Sales and Marketing for MasterCraft. “However, as part of the new format, we also want to involve the family that defines the perfect day as one spent together on the water whether that be waterskiing, wakeboarding, wakesurfing or simply tubing.”
More information will be made available for each of the individual components of the MasterCraft Throwdown event series as final dates and details are solidified. In the interim one thing is certain, MasterCraft looks forward to continuing to progress the landscape of competitive watersports and build the most reliable, powerful boats trusted by professional athletes to perform at the highest level.

Herb O’Brien founded O’Brien Sports, HO Sports/Hyperlite and most recently Ronix Wakeboards and Radar Waterskis. In 1972, he built the second ever manmade waterski lake in Woodinville, WA which today remains one of the most famous lakes in the world. Anyone with the privilege of knowing Herb remembers him for his generosity and giving nature. There are endless stories of his compassion told by the hundreds of people who worked for him over the years. We lost Herb in 2012 at the age of only 68. His vacation home at Crescent Bar was one of his favorite places to come ski.
Breanne Dodd joins Team GOODE
Breanne Dodd, the No. 7-ranked skier in the world and a perennial pro tournament podium threat, has joined Team GOODE.
As she was considering a new ski this spring, Breanne made her decision after testing the newly released RéV 6.
“From my very first set on the RéV 6, I instantly felt like, wow this ski is GOODE,” joked Breanne. “My turns felt more symmetrical, I started to feel more stable and balanced. It seems as if into and out of the ball its easier to stay over the center of the ski, which enables me to carry more speed out of the turn.”
Her decision to join Team GOODE paid immediate dividends at her first tournament on the RéV 6, the Stillwater Lakes Slalom Record, April 10th, in Palm Bay, Fla.
“I skied that tournament on the ski at the end of the first week of riding it, and ended up with a new PB of 3 at 39,” said Breanne. “Not a bad first event on the ski!”
Breanne’s addition bolsters an already strong Women’s pro team that includes two-time reigning World Champion and world record holder Regina Jaquess, emerging star Brooke Baldwin, and world top-10s Kate Adriaensen and Karen Truelove, among others.
“Breanne joining the team gives us one of the top talents in the world and a skier that a lot of people look up to and enjoy being around,” said Dave Goode, president and founder of GOODE Skis. “She is right there in the top echelon and we feel that with our products and support backing her up, she’ll be able to take that next step into world record territory. I am really looking forward to working closely with Breanne to get her deeper down the line and into 41 off.”
