About : Mission Bay
Mission Bay is an artificial, saltwater bay located south of the Pacific Beach community of San Diego, California, created from approximately 2,000 acres (810 ha) of historical wetland, marsh, and saltwater bay habitat. The bay is part of the recreational Mission Bay Park, the largest man-made aquatic park in the United States.
Annual attendance in the park is estimated at 15 million.
At the west end is a network of channels and islands - a perfect spot for everyone from windsurfers to water- skiers. You can swim, enjoy the sun or rent a boat to explore the thousands of acres of waterways.
Mission Bay Park offers boat docks and launching facilities, sailboat and motor rentals, bike and walk paths, basketball courts and playgrounds for children. It is one of San Diego's most fun-filled spots to visit.
There a three areas within Mission Bay with open speed limits where water skiing and other wake sports are allowed, Fiesta Bay, Sail Bay, and Hidden Anchorage. Fiesta and Sail Bay are open use areas with designated water ski take off and landing areas perfect for trick skiing, wakeboarding, barefooting, and other watersports. Hidden Anchorage is an isolated cove on the southeastern tip of Fiesta Island with a record capabale slalom course and jump ramp. Hidden Anchorage is designated permit use only and boats must operate in a rotation with only one at-at-time. Permits are free and readily available online, the only requirements are a valid USA Water Ski & Wake Sports membership and membership in an approved local water ski club.
Several water ski clubs are based in Mission Bay, including the San Diego Water Ski Team, the Convair Water Ski Club, the San Diego Mission Bay Boat and Ski Club, the San Diego State Waterski and Wakesports Club, and the University of San Diego Waterski Club.
Hidden Anchorage is home to many tournaments and special events annually including AWSA record capable tournaments, NCWSA collegiate tournaments, AWSA grassroots tournaments, and adaptive blind ski clinics.
