Jaquess, Travers Win Lake 38 Pro Am Titles

U.S. water ski athletes Regina Jaquess (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.) and Jon Travers (Groveland, Fla.) won the professional women’s and men’s slalom titles, respectively, on Sunday at the Lake 38 Pro Am at Lake 38 in Quincy, Fla. The tournament included cash prizes for the men’s and women’s professionals and trophies for amateurs. Some of the world’s top professional slalom skiers competed in the tournament.

Travers won the men’s title over Great Britain’s Will Asher following a runoff. After both athletes tied with a score of 4 buoys at 41 feet off in the finals, Travers won the subsequent runoff with a score of 3 buoys at 41 feet off to Asher’s 1 buoy at 41 feet off.

She was the only women’s athlete to run the complete 39-1/2 pass in the tournament, and she did it all three rounds, also scoring 1 buoy at 41 feet off in the first and second rounds. Canada’s Whitney McClintock placed second (4 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off), followed by U.S. athletes Samantha Dumala (Wellington, Fla.) in third (2 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off) and Brooke Baldwin (Winter Garden, Fla.) in fourth (1-1/2 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off).
